This is not about a marker's ability to scribble out the word Month. I left for Glasgow, Scotland on September 3rd and today is October 5th my friends. It's been a roller-coaster of emotions, usually soothed by vanilla steamers or a walk through the nearby Kelvingrove Museum. Every day I overhear the whisperings of American stupidity and can't help but close my throat tighter in order to blend in and detract attention.
Needless to say the month of September was a whirlwind of exploration, melancholic moments, adjusting to the "big city," and hurdling past rainy days and culture shock.
Skipping over the month of September, I am now living Glasgow in October. My room heater fails to produce warmth so every night I bundle up in socks, leggings, and a long sleeve flannel. The other morning my roommate Kendall and my dearest friend here, Beth, accompanied me to the newly opened Kelvingrove Cafe. I treated myself to my first real breakfast since my arrival: a vegetarian Scottish breakfast. A scottish breakfast consists of a heavy portion of meat, a few cooked mushrooms, tomato over a potato pancake, potatoes, and fruit pudding. Can you say an entire days worth of food in one sitting?
One problem with good ol' Europe is their insistence on sugar instead of corn syrup in chocolate and soda. This shift to real sugar sparked immediate addiction waves in my body and my throat. I crave cherry coke and cadburry chocolate on a daily basis. Tsk Tsk. I blame sugar.
Yesterday Beth and I took the 2 mile walk down to the City Centre to stroll Buchanan Street and Merchant City. In Merchant City there is a restaurant known as Mono which features vegetarian cuisine and it's own vinyl record shop (I'm in love). We stopped at McDonalds for Beth's craving of the American-banned caramel sundae. I was immediately splashed by a car puddle but later found two Christmas gifts so all in all it was a very successful rainy day.
It's about that time where I feel restless and need to walk, run, or sight-see depending on the weather.
Hello October.
